Overview
A new slide will be added to the Optical Prime A.I.R. PPTX. This slide will show the total number of server hours with a breakdown of idle vs busy hours. Additionally, new columns will be added to the Optical Prime generic Excel showing the total and idle hours.
Detailed Explanation
Live Optics A.I.R. report now includes an Idle Server slide that examines whether physical servers are potentially idle for significant periods and might benefit from a leasing program that takes into account idle CPU states. The analysis only looks at physical servers. The CPU utilization for each physical server is broken down into hours and examined. The CPU usage is observed for each hour. CPU usage for physical servers ranges between 0 and 100% where 100% indicates that all of the cores on the server are fully saturated. If a server averages less than 6% utilization for a given hour, then the server is considered idle for that hour. The server is considered active for the hour if the utilization is 6% or greater.
The total number of server hours is calculated by adding up each hour observed for each physical server. Note, if a server is only present for a fraction of an hour, the algorithm rounds up the activity as if the server had been observed for the entire hour.
The idle hours are the total of all idle hours observed for each physical server.
The active hours are the total of all active hours observed for each physical server.
