New Feature
Feature Outline
A new tab has been added to the Optical Prime general Excel spreadsheet to provide users with VM cloud pricing based on peak usage. These values are also available through PAPI.
Note: This feature currently supports VMware environments only.
Feature Information
- The new tab is named Cloud Pricing Peak Usage.
- Only VMware VMs which are running are included in this tab. If your VMs are not VMware VMs, are idle VMware VMs, or have no peak usage for vCPU or memory, they will be excluded from the Cloud Pricing Peak Usage tab. If you have no VMs that match these criteria, the Cloud Pricing Peak Usage tab will not be displayed in the Excel spreadsheet.
- Cloud pricing is based on
- Peak vCPU usage
- Peak memory usage
- Used storage capacity
- Operating system
- The same assumptions made for provisioned cloud pricing are assumed for cloud pricing based on peak usage.
Known Issues
There are no known issues for this release.
Known Limitations
This feature currently supports VMware environments only.

New Features
Optical Prime now offers six different Excel and PPTX reports. This feature consolidates report download into a single, easy to use interface.
Feature/Effort Key Takeaways
- User selects the reports and options
- Download all the report files in a single ZIP
- Includes:
- Performance PPTX
- Detail and Cloud Pricing Excel
- VMware Details Excel
Known Issues
No issues are currently known.
Known Limitations
- The Optical Prime PDF report is no longer supported. The same information that was in the PDF is available in the Performance PPTX.
- The maximum number of servers that can be selected are 20
- If the user selects local and shared cluster disks, the system will estimate the number of slides that will be produced and if it exceeds the limit of 100, then the following warning will be shown:
- Warning: this option will generate XXX slides, exceeding the recommended maximum slide count which might result in a timeout during report generation.
02/03/22
Optical Prime is introducing a new user interface to the import screen. This feature only changes the UI of the collector for Optical Prime discovery. There are no functional changes to how Optical Prime collects or to the workflow for Optical Prime.
The listing of Physical Servers, Hypervisors, Virtual Machines, Shared Cluster Disks and Local Disks is now updated to highlight counts of each item, and corresponding children.
A summary “Tile” view has also been added, which can be toggled from the top right corner.

New Feature/Fixes: Optical Prime Project Naming
- Initial Release
- The output is viewed in the beginning phase of the collector
Collector includes:
- New screen where user can name their projects
- The SIOKIT files are properly named after the projects making it easy to organize them if the plan is to use the browser to upload the SIOKITs
- If project aggregation of the collector runs was based on project name, it would be easier to group live stream projects
Known Issues
- No known Issues
Known Limitations
- There are no outstanding limitations, however, below are the conditions for the merging of the projects:
- Collections should use the same project name (case insensitive).
- Collections should target different environments.
- Collections can be merged within 4 hours from their start time if they're still in progress or processing.

Data scenarios can be manipulated to display specific times, include objects, or exclude objects such as servers. The Viewer can recalculate these scenarios and can be saved for future use in any state.
Live Optics Optical Prime currently has an option to include or exclude objects such as servers or VMs from a project. This functionality is found in the Performance tab tree menu. When this happens the recalculate button appears. Clicking this button recalculates the metrics for the entire project and should reflect only the values selected. The virtual tab had been excluded from this functionality.
New Features/Fixes
The virtual tab has been updated to be included in the recalculation processing. The virtual tab includes:
- Virtual Summary tab
- Physical Summary tab
- Graphs
- VM Resource Distribution
- Provision Contrast
- Over Provisioning
- Guest VMs table
Known Issues
Project information after the release date:
- Is Included bug – recalculation needed to correct the values
- Prior to 12/16/20 any projects that were previously recalculated will show inconsistent values in the virtual tab. To correct these values, the user must recalculate the project.
- Legacy Projects inconsistent values – recalculation will only occur for Virtual Tab Graphs
- For projects 1.5 years old (before July 2019), Virtual Summary, Physical Summary and Guest VM Table will not be updated after a recalculation. The Graphs tab charts will be recalculated causing the data to be inconsistent with the rest of the tabs/data.

New Features/Fixes
As part of the ongoing improvements in Live Optics, we have added a 3rd collector option within Optical prime; Inventory Mode. Inventory mode is a new collection option that has been added to Optical Prime. As the name implies the Inventory mode allows the user to collect basic server details including Physical Servers, Hypervisors and VMs as well as other details.
The 3 options for Optical Prime collection are:
- Secure connection to Live Optics web services
- Upload of SIOKIT
- Inventory mode
Known Issues
The following are known issues of Optical Prime Inventory mode;
- Inventory mode is that collection data is NOT sent back to the Live Optics Web services.
Known Limitations
The following are known limitations of Optical Prime Inventory mode;
- All data collected is stored locally as a excel file and immediately available to the user. There is no project created.
- The Inventory mode output excel does not include any performance metrics or data points.
- Inventory Mode does not capture performance. If performance data is required, then remaining 2 collector option must be selected (Secure connection or SIOKIT).
