Overview
Live Optics is a performance automation platform that allows you to gather, analyze and view details of your customer’s workloads.
This article provides terms used within Live Optics, its components, and a brief description of how they work.
Live Optics Collector
The collector is software you must download and runs. It performs two functions. First, for host based assessments, it collects performance data from servers/operating systems and sends the results to secure Live Optics servers. The collector is available for Windows, VMware ESXi and Linux operating systems and each can remotely collect from other operating systems. The Live Optics collector also allows array based performance data to be uploaded to the Live Optics portal to create projects for review. The Windows collector is our most popular Live Optics collector. The Windows collector runs on a Windows operating system (desktop or server version) to collect data.
The Live Optics collector for Linux runs on a Linux operating system and is available in both 32 and 64 bit versions. It collects data from the local Linux computer and remote UNIX or Linux computers (including XenServer and KVM). The video below gives a tutorial on running Live Optics Linux Collector.
Live Optics Project
Performance data from the collector is organized into a container called a Project. A Project gathers information from one or more collectors and organizes them into a hierarchy of objects and provides users with numeric, tabular and graphical statistics about objects within the hierarchy. Live Optics Web Portal
The web portal provides a rich, interactive interface for viewing projects. Project data is always viewable by your customer and if you were the party who requested the customer run Live Optics, the results are viewable by you. You can share projects with others in your company (if enabled), or with your sales team. You can visit the Live Optics Portal HERE. If you have never logged into Live Optics before, go to https://www.liveoptics.com/signup and request your account be created or contact your Dell Sales Team and request they register you to the Live Optics portal.
Live Optics Categories and Asset Types

Live Optics SIOKIT
The SIOKIT file is a proprietary file format that contains encrypted and compressed data from a Live Optics collection. It is used to safely transport raw data to the Live Optics datacenter for processing. For more information on SIOKIT, please see knowledge base article What is an SIOKIT File?
Request Capture
Request Capture allows you to send a request to an End User to enable them to run a Live Optics collection in their data centers. Once the Live Optics collector has completed , it will create projects of their data , allowing you to share your analysis.
