The Cloud Pricing tool uses your on-prem VM configuration assessed by Optical Prime (Guest VMs and Physical Servers with no hypervisors) and queries the price of hosting these VMs on the three main cloud service providers: AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Pricing is displayed on the following ways:
- On demand
- 1 year
- 3 years
From April 2024, Cloud Pricing supports currency conversion. The tool retrieves pricing in USD from the selected region, and applies a daily rate conversion to the requested currency for on screen display, Excel, and PAPI output.
Locate Cloud Pricing
As Cloud Pricing information is only available through an Optical Prime project, you must run an Optical Prime collection first. To locate Cloud Pricing information:
- Use the Cloud Pricing tab in an Optical Prime project in the Live Optics Portal
- Download the Excel project report from the Export menu in the Optical Prime project. Pricing is exported in the same Optical Prime excel sheet.
Pricing Factors
The factors used to determine pricing are listed below:
Pricing is based on the following configuration parameters for each of the assessed nodes:
-
- Number of CPUs
- Memory
- Operating System
- Storage
Pricing is based on the following fixed assumptions from the cloud provider:
-
- VMs are running 24/7 for the whole month
- Currency: USD
- Monthly aggregation of the price
- Pricing is done for Guest VMs
- Pricing is based on SSD storage option
- Burstable instances are excluded from our pricing model
- Pricing include the base license price for the OS
- Pricing is for shared tenancy
Additional Notes
AWS :
-
- The pricing of convertible reserved instances is displayed for 1 year and 3 years
- General purpose SSD storage (GP2) is used
Google Cloud:
-
- Storage: Zonal SSD Persistent disk
Azure
-
-
Pricing is not shown for:
- Low power instances (for example A0àA7)
- Promo SKUs
- Storage: SSD
-
Pricing is not shown for:
Smart Approximation Logic
Smart approximation is the logic we use for the display of pricing in case no direct match was found where we will Proceed with the below :
- Round up for VCPU
- Round down for VMEM if difference is <=10% of the original value with a ceiling of 6GB if the difference is greater, we proceed with a round up.
Results for smart approximation displayed as below:

NOTES FIELD |
True |
Matched against instance name = X |
