Overview
Cloud pricing tool takes the configuration of the on-Prem VMs assessed by Optical Prime (Guest VMs and Physical Serves with no hypervisors) and queries the price of hosting the assessed VMs on the 3 main cloud providers (AWS, Azure and Google cloud). Pricing Is provided for 3 Tiers (On- Demand, 1 year and 3 years Pricing).
How to Locate Cloud Pricing
Cloud Pricing is only available through the Optical Prime project; therefore, you must run an Optical Prime collection to avail of this feature. There are two methods in which to locate the Cloud Pricing;
- Method 1: Through the Cloud Pricing Tab in the Optical Prime project in the Live Optics Portal.
- Method 2: Downloading the Excel report from the Export menu in the Optical Prime project. Pricing is exported in the same Optical Prime excel sheet.
Pricing Factors
There are some fixed factors that we use while Pricing nodes, these factors are listed below:
- Pricing is based on the below configuration parameters for each of the assessed nodes:
-
- Number of CPUs
- Memory
- Operating System
- Storage
- Pricing is based on the below fixed Assumptions from the provider side:
-
- VMs are running 24/7 For the whole month
- Currency: USD
- Region: US East (N.Virginia)
- Monthly Aggregation of the price
- Pricing is done for Guest VMs
- We are pricing based on SSD storage option
- Burstable instances are excluded from our pricing model
- Pricing include the base license price for the OS
- Pricing is for shared tenancy
Additional Notes
- AWS :
-
- We display the pricing of convertible reserved instances for 1 year & 3 years pricing
- Storage: we use general purpose SSD storage (GP2)
- Google Cloud:
-
- Storage: Zonal SSD Persistent disk
- Azure
-
- We are not showing pricing for low power instances A0àA7
- We are not showing the pricing of instances A8à A11 as they will be retired by 3/2021
- We are not showing the pricing of promo SKUs
- Storage : We are using SSD storage option
Smart Approximation Logic
Smart approximation is the logic we use for the display of pricing in case no direct match was found where we will Proceed with the below :
- Round up for VCPU
- Round down for VMEM if difference is <=10% of the original value with a ceiling of 6GB if the difference is greater, we proceed with a round up.
Results for smart approximation displayed as below:
