Overview
This document outlines what an SIOKIT file is, what it contains and how it is used by Live Optics.
What is an SIOKIT file?
The SIOKIT file is a proprietary file format that contains encrypted and compressed data from a Live Optics collection. It is used to safely transport raw data to the Live Optics datacenter for processing.
The Live Optics collector gathers data from a variety of asset types, ranging from servers, storage arrays, software applications, and cloud infrastructure. The data collected tends to be in a raw format and must be processed and analyzed before a sensible report can be generated and shown to users. This processing occurs inside of the Live Optics datacenter. Therefore, the raw data collected must be transported to the Live Optics datacenter. Users generally have two options to achieve this transport:
- Upload the data directly from the collector to Live Optics using a web service API
- Or generate an SIOKIT file and then independently upload the SIOKIT file either by browser or with the collector.
SIOKIT File Encryption
When users download a collector, the collector contains cryptographic information which associates the collector application with the user’s Live Optics account. Specifically, the collector contains an embedded RSA key which the collector uses to encrypt and sign SIOKIT files. In this way, Live Optics can identify the source of the SIOKIT file and associate the file with a specific user account. The private key resides in the Live Optics datacenter. So, the file cannot be decrypted outside of Live Optics. Key pairs are generated on a per-collector basis for each download.
Uploading SIOKIT Files
Users can upload SIOKIT files by clicking the Upload SIOKIT file button in the Collector (see knowledge base article Uploading SIOKIT file in the Live Optics collector) or through the Live Optics Web Portal - Optical Prime Only (see knowledge base article Uploading SIOKIT file in the Live Optics Portal).
