What are SQL Server Projects?
SQL Server in Limited Preview for Live Optics is an assessment designed to collect limited configuration data on your SQL Server. You can run SQL assessments in two ways;
- Through the Workloads assessment tab in the collector (connects to one SQL Server at a time and creates one project).
- By running an Optical Prime collection on an environment which contains SQL Servers within (connects to multiple SQL Server at one time to create a SQL Server project for each Instance it has connected to).
I have just run an Optical Prime collection and I have found multiple SQL Projects on my Dashboard. I cannot see my Optical Prime Project. Why is this?
- Live Optics has released a new SQL Server assessment that allows you to collect SQL Server data whilst performing an Optical Prime collection. We have provided the capability to discover SQL Servers within the IT environment, regardless if the SQL Service is running, not running, disabled, or paused. Once Optical Prime has discovered SQL Servers, it will create a separate SQL project per Instance, allowing the viewer to see specific metrics per Instance. The project will only show up in the Dashboard on the web portal whilst the project is in status IN PROGRESS, IN QUEUE, PROCESSING, or In ERROR. When the SQL Project is in status COMPLETE, it will only appear in the Search Project.
Can I disable the feature to pull SQL Server metrics through Optical Prime?
- No, it is not possible to disable this feature, however, you are able to delete the SQL projects without influencing the Optical Prime Project.
Are the SQL Projects connected to the Optical Prime projects?
- While the SQL Server project has been collected through the Optical Prime collection, and while the SQL Servers reside on the servers being collected by Optical Prime, once the either SQL Server or Optical Prime projects are created, they are independent of one another. Future releases will include a dedicated SQL Server tab within the Optical Prime viewer that will aggregate and associate all SQL Server projects spawned from the Optical Prime project. We can provide more information about this upon release.
How do I know what SQL Projects belong to which Optical Prime Project?
You can distinguish which SQL Project belongs to what Optical Prime project in two ways;
- Check the DATE CREATED field in the SEARCH PROJECT page on the Web Portal. The SQL Server projects associated with the Master Optical Prime project will be directly after the DATE CREATED time of the Optical Prime project.
- Check the PROJECT NAME field in the SEARCH PROJECT page on the Web Portal. The name of the SQL project will contain the same name as the server
I have chosen to upload later and have saved SIOKITs to the .exe collector folder. When I check this folder, I find multiple SIOKIT’s. What are these?
- SIOKITs are an encrypted collection of files, much like a zip, that contain specific information gathered from the environment at the time of collection. For more information on SIOKIT, see knowledge base article What is an SIOKIT File?
How do I know what SIOKIT the Optical Prime project is, and which is the SQL project?
- The Optical Prime SIOKIT will show the server name .siokit while the SQL SIOKIT will have the letters SQL appear at the beginning of the file name.
