Optical Prime project, Excel – Field Definitions (01/04/19)

Overview

This document describes the fields in the Optical Prime project’s excel.

The primary Excel (LiveOptics_ProjectNumber_MM_DD_YYYY.xlsx) includes up to eight tabs

  • Server Tab: includes all the data related to the physical servers in the project and associated performance data
  • GPU Tab: include Servers that have a GPU and associated details
  • Hypervisors: includes serves that are configured as Hypervisors along with server details and select performance data
  • Server Disks: includes server disk names as associated details including performance data
  • Cluster Disks: includes cluster disk names as associated details including performance data
  • VMs : includes all the data related to the guests VMs
  • Applications: includes list of all applications that are running per server
  • Details: Project assessment details

NOTE: The data in the Excel reflects the point in time in which the “inventory” is done by the Optical Prime collector.

 

Server Tab

  •  Server name: The DNS name of the server
  • OS: Operating System running on that server
  • Manufacturer: Manufacturer of the server
  • Model: Server Model
  • CPU Sockets: Total number of sockets for the server
  • CPU Cores: Total number of cores for the server (not per socket)
  • CPU Description: CPU physical model
  • Net Clock Speed: Total CPU speed for all Cores
  • CPU Clock Speed: Clock speed per CPU core
  • Peak CPU %: Peak CPU utilization
  • Memory: Memory per server
  • Peak Memory Usage: Peak memory used
  • Local Capacity: Local disk capacity
  • Free Capacity: Free local capacity
  • Used Capacity: Local capacity – Free capacity
  • IOPS: Total IOPS per server
  • Read Latency: Read latency in milliseconds
  • Write Latency: Write latency in milliseconds
  • Queue Depth: IOPS queue depth
  • MB/S: Throughput
  • Read/Write ratio: The ratio of read and write IOPS
  • IP: IP address
  • Service Tag: Service tag details

 

GPU TAB

  • Server: list server name
  • OS: list what OS is running
  • GU: Details about the GPU
  • Service Tag: service tag ID

 

HYPERVISORS TAB

  • Server Name: The DNS name of the server
  • OS: Operating System running on that server
  • Manufacturer: Manufacturer of the server
  • Model: Server Model
  • CPU Sockets: Total number of sockets for the server
  • CPU Cores: Total number of cores for the server (not per socket)
  • CPU Description: CPU physical model
  • Net Clock Speed: Total CPU speed for all Cores
  • CPU Clock Speed: Clock speed per CPU core
  • Peak CPU %: Peak CPU utilization
  • CPU Threads: Number of threads the CPU supports
  • Memory: Memory per Server
  • Peak Memory Usage: Peak memory used
  • Local Capacity: Local disk capacity
  • Free Capacity: Free local capacity
  • Used Capacity: Local capacity – Free capacity
  • IOPS: Total IOPS per server
  • Read Latency: Read latency in milliseconds
  • Write Latency: Write latency in milliseconds
  • Queue Depth: IOPS queue depth
  • MB/s: Throughput
  • Read/Write Ratio: The ratio of read and write IOPS
  • Guest VM Count: Total Guest VM count
  • Number of NICs: Total number of NICs
  • Number of HBAs Total number of HBAs
  • IP: IP Address
  • BootTime: - Last time server was last booted.

SERVER DISKS

  • Server Name: The DNS name of the server
  • Device name: Server Disk name
  • Capacity: Size of the Disk
  • Free Capacity: Amoutn of free space
  • Used Capacity: Amount of used space
  • 95% IOPS: Aggregate 95th percentile IOPS. 
  • Read Latency: Latency in reading from server disk
  • Write Latency: Latency in writing to server disk
  • Queue Depth: Number of outstanding IO operations that is processed
  • Read/Write ratio: compares the percentage of read operations to write operations between the server and its storage devices. 
  • Vendor:  Name of vendor
  • Model: Model number of the product

 

CLUSTER DISKS

  • Server Name: The DNS name of the server
  • Device name: Server Disk name
  • Capacity: Size of the Disk
  • Free Capacity: Amoutn of free space
  • Used Capacity: Amount of used space
  • 95% IOPS: Aggregate 95th percentile IOPS. 
  • Read Latency: Latency in reading from server disk
  • Write Latency: Latency in writing to server disk
  • Queue Depth: Number of outstanding IO operations that is processed
  • Read/Write ratio: compares the percentage of read operations to write operations between the server and its storage devices. 
  • Vendor:  Name of vendor
  • Model: Model number of the product

VM Data

  • Guest VM Name: VM name as defined in VMware
  • Guest Hostname: DNS name of the guest OS  
  • IsRunning: If the VM is running or not at the time of the “Inventory” phase of OP collector
  • Power State: Displays if VM is suspended or not
  • Guest VM OS: Operating system of the VM
  • Disks: Number if disks associated to the VM
  • NICs: Number of NICs associated to sthe VM
  • Virtual CPU: Total virtual CPUs for the VM
  • Provisioned Memory: Total Memory allocated to the VM
  • Used memory (Active): Total used memory by the VM
  • Consumed Memory: Is a more precise measurement of consumed Used Memory outside the VMDK container assignment itself
  • Guest VM Disk Capacity: VM max capacity as provisioned by the VMware tools/OS
  • Guest VM Disk Used: VM actual allocated capacity as provisioned by the VMware tools/OS
  • Guest VM % Occupancy: Calculated as “Guest VM Disk used” / “Virtual Disk size”. This is a more realistic representation of the % disk utilization of the VM
  • Virtual Disk Size: VM max capacity as provisioned by VMware
  • Virtuial Disk Used: VM actual allocated capacity as provisioned by VMware
  • Hypervisor: Hypervisor (server) name as defined in VMware
  • Guest IP: upto 4 IP address listed
  • BootTime: Time when

APPLICATIONS

  • Server Name: Name of the server
  • Software Title: title of the software running on the server
  • OS: Operating system of the server

 

DETAIL

  • Project ID: Live Optics project ID number
  • Project Name: Project name of the assessment / collection
  • Date: Date when collection was run in mm/dd/yyyy HH:MM format
  • Collector Build version: version number of the collector used when assessment was reun
  • Owner: the owner of the project

** If the user has a 3rd party VMware tools installed the “Guest VM Disk Capacity” and “Guest VM Disk Used” fields might be not be available. In this case they will be calculated as the “Virtual Disk Size (MB)”

    Can you please elaborate on these definitions?  For instance, when in the Excel output there is a single value reported for a performance metric is it 

    • for a single point in time? if so, when?
    • an average? or some other calculated value?
    • something else? 

    Metrics such as Read and write latency, IOPS, MB/s, etc
