07/22/2024 | NetWorker API | Enhancements
NetWorker API collections have been enhanced for better parallelism detection if they exist across data types including: Microsoft SQL VDI, Microsoft SQL VSS, Microsoft Exchange, Filesystem, SAP HANA, and DB2.
The Excel spreadsheet has been updated as follows:
- The Backups tab contains two new columns, Job ID and Clone ID, to provide insight into commonality between reported savesets that belong to the same job.
- The DBs Backup Analysis tab now includes:
- Aggregated savesets for each client (using Backup by Run time) for the following databases: Oracle, Microsoft Exchange, DB2, Microsoft SQL, SharePoint, and SAP HANA. These provides details on each complete backup size over a 60 day period.
-
Estimated Throughput for each complete backup based on the reported backup size and Elapsed Time. NOTE: If the Elapsed time reported is zeroed, the throughput is reported as N/A.
- The DBs FETB tab provides an estimated FETB for the listed databases.
- The Client Vol. and FETB tab provides each client FETB for data types including Filesystem, NDMP, and Hyper-V. It also displays the logical size sent from the client to the NetWorker server over a 60 day period.
- The Front End Capacity by Workload tab provides FETB estimates for each workload.
- The Saveset Size tab displays the FETB per backup with the database name and VM name. For RMAN and DB2, the default backup names are “RMAN” and “DB2” (due to the method in which NetWorker reports saveset names for these data types).

05/02/2024 | NetWorker API | New Features/Fixes
The following enhancements have been made in the Networker API Excel Spreadsheet:
- From version 19.9, totalvmdiskutil and occupiedvmdiskutil are included in the Backups and Dedup tabs.
- Replaced vCenter Client Reported with actual VM names for Saveset Size, Client Protected Volume & FETB, and Client Statistics.
- The Oracle FETB calculation includes new logic which is based on the time gaps between RMAN backups. This method excludes any backup that is not a full backup and provides a more accurate estimate of client FETB across 60 days.
An algorithm aggregates backup segments separated with a time gap less than 10 minutes of their start times, the finishing times of all RMAN backups, and provides an estimate size for each backup of an RMAN client at a point in time. The allows you to observe the most frequently occurring backup sizes across a 60 day period. The following tab has been updated for this enhancement:
- DB Backup Analysis - lists each RMAN Client, its Volume Protected (the sum of the backup items which have a time gap of less than 10 minutes), the start and end times of the RMAN backup, Elapsed Duration, and Client Backup Throughput in GB/hr.
The algorithm detects the peak reported backup size for each client from the aggregated segments, which are sorted into 1-5 buckets (these based on 20% increments of the largest backup segment calculated). Assuming a backup success rate of 80% per client is used to calculate daily, weekly, and monthly backup criteria, this is then compared against the number of occurrences of backup sizes in each of the buckets. The most likely Client FETB is the most frequently recurring backup size. The following tabs have been updated for this enhancement:
- DBs FETB
- Client Protected Vol. and FETB - The following items have been added to the KPIs tab:
- Total number of backups, Clones and Recovers
- Client Backups, Clones and Recover success rates
- Number of Clones in each bucket (for durations of 1, 2, 4, 8 and 8+ hours)
- The Backups tab has been updated to display the correct backup types for each backup, instead of what NetWorker reports as File, Coverset, DSA, NDMP, Raw, Snapshot, or Unknown. This enhancement now displays the Backup Type for each client, and the prefix expected for each Backup Type, for example RMAN: for Oracle, DB2: for DB2, and [A-Z]:\ for Windows Filesystem.
- New tab added for 50 Longest Clone Jobs.
- The Dedup Jobs tab now lists:
- VDDK Provisioned Capacity
- VDDK Changed Bytes
- VM Guest Occupied and Total Capacities (from version 19.9)
- VM Client Pre-Comp and VM Client Post-Comp sizes for each VM client
Non-VM backup pre and post dedup sizes have been renamed to Non-VM Post-Global comp (GB) and Non-VM Post-Local comp (GB) to differentiate the way in which VM pre and post comp sizes (from vm_info in the backup API output) and Non-VM backups (making use of the reported Dedup statistics on the backup API output) are collected.
