Creating End User Projects For Channel Partner

Team Live Optics

This KB Article is designed to demonstrate the workflow partners should follow to request their End Users run a Live Optics performance capture, called Optical Prime, in their data centers, create projects of their End User's data once the Live Optics collector has completed, and share Live Optics analysis with End Users.

Prerequisite Information

  • All End User data is private to their account in the Live Optics portal.  As a partner, you are granted a license to be shared that data if the End User delegates you as a viewer.
  • If an End User doesn’t currently have a Live Optics account, you are also given the option to invite them to use Live Optics and create an account. By doing so, you initiate a “Request Capture” that will establish you as a viewer of the performance data collected during this request.
  • If you are a managed service provider where you act as the outsourced IT department for the End User, you will automatically be given the option to run Live Optics on their behalf as part of the request Live Optics capture process.

Step 1:  Login to Live Optics with your credentials and access your profile

Access the Live Optics portal ( and login with your account credentials.

If you have never logged into Live Optics before, go to and request your account be created or contact your Dell Sales Team and request they register you to the Live Optics portal.

Step 2:  Request Live Optics capture

To begin a request capture process, click “RequestCapture” button on dashboard.

Step 3:  Enter End User's email address

To begin End User lookup in Live Optics portal, enter End User’s email address and click “Search for Contact” button.

Step 4:  Verify End User information and submit request

Live Optics will try to search for an End User's email address.  If the user does not have an account on Live Optics, we give you the opportunity to create one for them. Make sure that “Account Name”, “First Name”, and “Last Name” contain user information.  Also, click the Select Collection Type drop-down, select the types of scans completed, and click the “Send Request” button.

If an End User has previously been registered to the Live Optics portal, all of the information will have been previously entered.  Select the types of Live Optics scans needed under the Select Collection Types drop-down.  Once all settings are set, click the “Send Request” button.

Step 5:  Notification messages sent by Live Optics to both partner and End User

The Live Optics portal will send email notifications to the email addresses for both the requester (partner) and End User. Within the notification message, there will be direct links to download the Live Optics collector software for the End User’s account. If the End User did not have a Live Optics account in Step 4, they will also receive an account activation message from Live Optics containing details on how to activate their portal account and setup their password.

NOTE: If the requesting partner wants the Live Optics collector run data to be streamed to their account, it is important that the End User download the Live Optics collector software using the links provided in these email messages.  Additionally, the partner email address should always be listed as a CC recipient in the Live Optics capture request messages sent from the Live Optics portal.  This allows partners to run Live Optics on behalf of their End Users in situations where that is requested or needed.

Step 6:  Download, extract and run Live Optics collector

End User or Partner should be able to download the Live Optics collector software using the links provided in the email previously sent, extract and execute the collector, configure Live Optics (including adding all remote servers), and for Optical Prime begin data capture.

Step 7:  View Project

For Optical Prime, the Live Optics collector software will automatically stream the collector run data back to the Live Optics servers by default (can be changed when Live Optics is started).  These streamed collector runs are automatically added to a project and can be viewed once the Live Optics software has started.  To view a project, click on the project name listed on your dashboard.

Step 8:  View project

Live Optics project data will be available in two different views, Environment View and Performance View.  A optional 3rd Virtual view may appear if Virtual Machines (VMs) were part of the collection process.
