The Server KPI Comparison Tool provides a high-level comparison of compute and environmental statistics for PowerEdge servers in an existing environment against a proposed solution.
The tool uses SPEC scores from spec.org to calculate the number of new PowerEdge servers required to produce equivalent compute power, compare physical rack space savings, highlight power savings or additional consumption, and potential energy savings. By using this tool, you can quickly identify and compare efficient and cost-effective solutions for your customer workload requirements.
NOTE: The Server KPI Comparison Tool can be used by Dell employees only. It is intended for refresh and consolidation sales and presales activities. Once a solution is identified by the Sales or Presales team, it is recommended that you complete a full PowerEdge server sizing for a final quotable solution.
About SPEC and SPEC Scores
SPEC is a non-profit organization that develops sets of standardized tests to rate and compare the performance and energy consumption of new generation computing systems. These tests help hardware vendors gauge their product performance against competitors and identify areas of improvement. Visit spec.org for further information.
SPEC scores are calculated using sets of benchmark tests and results are published on spec.org. Using APIs, SPEC scores are used by the Server KPI Comparison Tool to ensure the most suitable and cost-effective solutions are created for customers.
How the Server KPI Comparison Tool Works
The Server KPI Comparison Tool uses a weighted mix of published SPEC scores, SPECint (60%) and SPECfp (40%), to obtain a relative CPU processing index. This index is used to calculate the number of new PowerEdge servers (with fully populated CPU cores) required to produce equivalent compute processing.
By using the Recommended server quantity toggle button, you can manually change the recommended server quantity to compare a different quantity of proposed servers.
NOTE: The Server KPI Comparison Tool does not evaluate server memory requirements. The quantity of servers may vary depending on your application requirements. The tool compares only CPU Total Dissipated Power (TDP) and not total PowerEdge server consumption.
