Overview
Live Optics Optical Prime has enhanced the collection of VMware performance data to every hour for the duration of the collection, We are also collecting additional data points.
Optical Prime Guest VM Performance
Collecting Guest VM performance is an optional setting users can choose (set by default) when connecting to a VMware vCenter server in an Optical Prime collection run. Note: Guest VM performance is not supported in Live Optics for other Hypervisors (Hyper-V, Xen, and KVM.)
During the performance phase of collection, the collector cycles through the list of all the Guest VMs and gathers the real time performance information for that Guest VM. The data is collected for each Guest VM every hour at 20 second samples for the duration of the collection. i.e. for a 3 day run there would be 72 sets of data. In the case where there is a very large number of VMs and an hour is not enough to collect all the metrics, the collection loop will keep running normally until the end of the collection.
Average calculations are based on a rolling set of averages. For peak, values are compared against the previous value replacing the value if it is greater.
This update will improve the accuracy of the data that Live Optics presents.
Additional data is also being collected and has been added to the VMware Optical Prime Excel spreadsheet.
