The Cloud Pricing tool uses your on-prem VM configuration assessed by Optical Prime (Guest VMs and Physical Servers with no hypervisors) and queries the price of hosting these VMs on the three main cloud service providers: AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Pricing is displayed on the following ways:
- On demand
- 1 year
- 3 years
From April 2024, Cloud Pricing supports currency conversion. The tool retrieves pricing in USD from the selected region, and applies a daily rate conversion to the requested currency for on screen display, Excel, and PAPI output.
NOTE: The Cloud Pricing tool is accessed from Optical Prime projects on the Live Optics web portal. You must first run an Optical Prime collection before using the Cloud Pricing tool.
- Navigate to app.liveoptics.com.
- On the main dashboard, select a project under Recent Projects, or click All Projects to select from your full list.
- The following screen displays. Select the Cloud Pricing tab.
- The Cloud Pricing tool displays. Select your region from the dropdown menu and click Get Latest Pricing. If no region is selected, the default region used is US (East). Click Download Excel for detailed information on each VM including pricing for the selected region, date of retrieval, 1 year and 3 year pricing per vendor, and information on how the pricing was calculated.
- Cloud pricing information displays below the tool. Use the radio button to view details by vendor.
The Y-axis on the graph provides the pricing based on one year. Each bar in the graph represents a VM which are sorted from most to least expensive. Hover your mouse over the individual bars to view additional VM information.
Below the graph is the Monthly Public Cloud Pricing Comparison chart which compares the monthly cost for one year of service for each cloud vendor. The Average Virtual Machine chart displays the average estimated monthly price per vendor.
NOTE: VMs that do not have one year pricing available are excluded from the charts, and the following message displays on screen "1 year pricing is unavailable for NN VMs for the AWS service provider”.
